The Guildhall is a striking Grade I listed building located between Gresham Street EC2 and Aldermanbury, close to Moorgate EC2 and London Wall EC2. The Guildhall is home to the City of London Corporation and is still in use today for state events, the election of the Lord Mayor of London and for meetings of the Court of the Common Council, who are the City of London's decision making body. The Guildhall, which is free to enter, is an excellent example of medieval architecture. The Guildhall Art Gallery, Guildhall Clock Museum and Guildhall Library are all positioned around the Guildhall's Grand Hall, which was built between 1411-1430.

The Guildhall is a great place to visit to gain an insight in to history of the City of London, with unique monuments to key figures in British history, such as the Duke of Wellington and Admiral Viscount Nelson on display. There is a Bronze statue of Sir Winston Churchill in the Grand Hall of the Guildhall, which was installed in 1959. The hall has banners and artwork representing the twelve Great Livery Companies of London, which include drapers and fishmongers. The largest medieval crypt in London, which was restored to its former glory in 1973, is located underneath the Guildhall. The Guildhall is open daily from 10.00am-17.00pm May-Sept and from 10.00am-17.00pm Monday to Saturday between April and October (last admission at 16.30pm). The Guildhall has good access for disabled visitors and tours can be arranged in advance, for groups of ten or more people.

The Guildhall is located close to many places of interest within the City of London, such as the Museum of London, 450m north-west on London Wall and the Barbican arts complex, located 600m north between Beech Street EC2 and Silk Street EC2. The Museum of London, which also offers free admission, has interactive displays outlining the history of the City of London, and has both permanent and temporary exhibitions that focus on various aspects of London culture. The Barbican is spaciously laid out with cinemas, a theatre and a number of bars and restaurants, such as the Waterside Cafe, which provides healthy European dishes which can be enjoyed outside next to the Barbican's own lake. This peaceful area has water fountains, colourful plant life and an extensive collection of ornamental fish for visitors to see. Other places of interest close to the Guildhall include the Bank of England headquarters (400m south-east) and the Royal Exchange (450 south-east) both located next to Bank Station.

The Guildhall has excellent transport links and can be reached by bus, car or London Underground services. London Underground stations close to the Guildhall include Bank, which is located 400m south-east. Bank Station, which is linked to Monument Underground Station, provides extensive tube services on 5 lines, as well as Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services to destinations including London City Airport, Tower Gateway and Stratford. Other stations close to the Guildhall include Moorgate rail Underground station (500m north-east) and St Paul's Underground Station (500m south-west). Buses services that serve the area around the Guildhall include the 43 and 205 routes, while car parking is available at the Barbican centre.
