A global centre of tailoring that - literally - invented the term "bespoke", this legendary street of gentleman's outfitters is a must-visit for the well dressed male. Known as the Golden Mile, it's up there with Baker, Downing and Carnaby Streets as one of London's most famous addresses, infiltrating popular culture as the home of fictional adventurer Phileas Fogg, James Bond's favourite suit-maker and the Beatles' Apple Records.
Bespoke British tailoring immortalised Savile Row, and since dandies like the original Mayfair socialite Beau Brummell introduced the idea of the fashionable male to 19th century London, its boutiques have dressed everyone from Napoleon to Jamie Foxx, Winston Churchill to John Lennon. Suits are usually made by hand on the premises of the 20+ tailors in the row, and personal care and attention is second to nowhere: the Savile Row Bespoke Association, founded in 2004, monitor standards in all the boutiques to maintain Savile Row's status as the mecca of the perfect hand-stitched suit.
