Whitehall Hotel
Recently converted from a terrace of Georgian houses, the Whitehall is a lovely boutique hotel suiting the more discerning visitor to London requiring a more personal service.
Located on Montague Street in the heart of the West End, the hotel is just a one minute walk from Russell Square and also the world famous British Museum. Further afield yet still within walking distance are the areas of Oxford Street, Leicester Square, Soho, Theatreland, Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden. The local area is served by both Tottenham Court Road and Russell Square underground stations and therefore enables easy access to and from Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. For those arriving at Heathrow, the journey is best undertaken using the Heathrow Express (16 minutes) into Paddington and then taking an easy 10 minute taxi ride to the hotel.
The furnishings are traditional with rich fabrics, heavy drapes and a wealth of wood veneer furniture. The atmosphere is calm but not unfriendly. To the rear of the building is a rare feature, a private garden and glass conservatory where you can take afternoon tea. There are 2 restaurants, an informal bistro with buffet style foods and a more formal a la carte room overlooking the garden which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Being a London town house, the bedrooms are all individual in size and appointment. All rooms offer direct dial telephone complete with modem point and voice mail, colour television complete with satellite channels including CNN and Sky, trouser press, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and of course a private bathroom with bath and overhead shower. All rooms are double glazed and offer central heating. There are a limited number of Executive rooms all of which overlook the rear garden. These rooms are generally larger and have a seating area with sofa.
All public areas are air conditioned and consist of a small but very comfortable bar/ lounge, the garden conservatory and the 2 restaurants. There are lifts to all floors. There is 24 hour room service offering a good selection of drinks and snacks.
Clients considering this hotel must bear in mind that it is a boutique hotel and as such the public areas are minimal. It should be regarded as a "home from home" type environment where service and location are more important than spacious bars and restaurants. The location is superb.
